Forum Rules and Guidelines

Postby Silkspinner » Wed Sep 16, 2009 1:41 pm

This forum is a place to discuss topics of interest and have fun...not a big stage for drama. We've all seen too much of this on the web, so please keep the following rules in mind:

1) Be nice. Be respectful
- Don't publicly complain about other forum members. If you have a problem, please take it up with them privately or with the moderators. Spreading rumors, true or false, is for children.
- If you're being harassed or have any other problem, please feel free to PM a moderator.
- People will have differing opinions than you. It happens, sometimes! Always address people's opinions rather than insulting them personally. Tal and I would laugh if you flame someone for thinking differently and it turned out to be your mother. Seriously. We'd laugh a lot.
- Hate speech isn't allowed. Threads flaming races, religions, genders, or lifestyles will always be shut down. While intelligent debates and informational discussions are allowed, do be aware of the inherently incendiary nature of these topics. Even if you speak calmly and intelligently, other people's actions may end up with a locked or deleted discussion.

2) Trolls will be beaten on sight.
- Don't post things with the intention of irritating people and sparking an argument. 'Kay? Please just...don't.

3) Be tasteful in what you post.
- Use common sense. If an image or story may offend people, than link to it with a clear warning rather than posting it directly in the thread. Let them decide whether they want to view it. If it's not safe for work (or not safe for your mother to see,) consider linking. PG-13 is a general guideline for the forums, though a few, like Creative Writing, have forum-specific guidelines. When in doubt, include NSFW in the topic title.
- Although we always prefer that you handle things yourselves (the best mods are nearly invisible, after all, especially when people are being mature,) moderators can choose to either make your suspect content into a link, or to delete it entirely if it's just a little too much for the forum.
- Pornography, however, is never allowed.

4) Bots will be shot. (And then melted down.)

5) Think about the right category for your post, and choose accordingly.
- We have lots of forums to choose from...take a moment to think about the most appropriate place for your post to save the moderators some hassle and also get the best responses from other members!

6) Posting in 1337 or chatspeak doesn't appeal to everyone, and isn't encouraged.
- This is a forum, not a cell phone with limited character space for posts. Take your time, express yourself, and feel free to use all those wonderful words that you learned in school. Try to limit the AFK BBQ WTF PWN LOL types of speech, and remember: You, not 'U'; To, not '2'; What, not 'wot'; etc. Their, There, and They're all mean different things, just like You're and Your.

7) Posting in ALL CAPS is interpreted as yelling, and a great way to ask people to ignore what you have to say.

8) Profanity isn't forbidden, but use it intelligently and in moderation.

9) We're here to help!
- Please feel free to PM moderators with any concerns you may have.
- Tal and Silk stay pretty busy on the comic, so responses may be a little slow until we get to know everyone enough to pick dedicated moderators. We'll do our best and check in as often as we can!

10) Have fun, and know that we really appreciate your interest in both Complex Actions and being part of our community. We're happy to have you...welcome!
O divine art of subtlety and secrecy! Through you we learn to be invisible, through you inaudible and hence we can hold the enemy's fate in our hands.
